House Guests: A Living Unit

Scope: 12’ cube

The project seeks to bring the apparatuses and interfaces that support domestic functions, comfort and rituals out of the walls and into the home. It lies somewhere between furniture and architecture - it is substantial enough to define space and generate atmospheres, yet it is not a building itself. The aim was to design a figural object to be sited in a generic Cartesian interior which supports the rituals of cleansing, preparing food, heating/cooling and waste disposal.

The project consists of blocks that are manipulated to perform various functions. Change in materiality also delineates public and private space. Instead of a solid wall, the blocks are made from opaque material to differentiate spaces, yet at the same time allow for open communication.
